On January 17, 2006, Mori Building Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Minoru Mori) will hold an earthquake drill at Roppongi Hills (Roppongi 6-chome, Minato-ku, Tokyo), in partnership with the Roppongi Hills residents' association (Chairman: Tamotsu Hara).

We have sought to make Roppongi Hills a safe haven to which people can evacuate to, rather than evacuate from, in the event of a disaster. Each building incorporates the latest seismic technologies to ensure that city and building functions will remain intact in the event of a major earthquake. Complex disaster preparations include emergency wells, an emergency power generating system, and emergency food supplies.

Mori Building, which has undertaken numerous redevelopment projects in the Tokyo center and currently manages Roppongi Hills, has organized regular earthquake drills that focus on the safety of residents, tenants, visitors, and neighborhood residents and the early restoration of building functions in the event of a disaster. It has also implemented various measures, including emergency contact training, to ensure that all employees participate in the lifesaving program (and acquire a lifesaving skills certificate). It has also implemented a system that requires managers to take turns on night duty and on holidays to promote a disaster support system capable of rapid response.

The third earthquake drill held at Roppongi Hills on January 17 is a large-scale effort involving the Roppongi Hills residents' association (residents, office workers, and tenants). The purpose of the drill is to enhance awareness and knowledge of potential disasters and to establish a community disaster prevention system by familiarizing people with emergency procedures.

For the first time during this drill, we will provide participants with an opportunity to experience the controlled operation of elevators in the event of an earthquake and automatic operation of elevators to the nearest floor in the event of a blackout.
