Mori Building Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Minoru Mori) will carry out work on the main entrance of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, dismantling the revolving door now in place and installing an automatic sliding door. Construction starts on September 5, with preparatory work taking place on September 5 and 6, and actual work beginning on September 7; the replacement is scheduled for completion by mid-October.
In response to a request from Professor Yotaro Hatamura of Kogakuin University, we will donate the removed revolving door apparatus to the Door Project headed by him. We agree wholeheartedly with this project's goal to never allow the memory of the March 2004 accident involving this door to fade, and believe that keeping the revolving door in working order will be effective in preventing similar accidents in the future.
The Door Project was launched by Professor Hatamura in the wake of the accident involving the Roppongi Hills revolving door. Through this project he and his group have sought to explore the dangers related to revolving doors, as well as hinged doors and shutters, carrying out experiments to gauge the hazards related to this equipment. As a participant in this project team, we have given our full support to the Door Project, providing facilities for the experimentation.
Professor Hatamura will make a presentation to the members of the press on the goals of preserving this door in working condition and the outline of his group's activities. Details of this press conference are as follows:
