Compact City

Compact City—a City within a City

Mori Building’s basic philosophy is that the essence of a city is the people that live there. That is why we formulated a “grand urban design” by constantly exploring the optimal environment people need to live enriching lives. This led to our vision of the ideal city: the “compact city” or a city within a city. We seamlessly integrate a wide range of urban functions into our Hills developments to meet people’s needs, which includes not only living and working, but also learning, playing, interacting, and relaxing. And all of these functions are consolidated within walking distance of each other.

Enriching Spaces and Enriching Time

Combining urban functions in a compact area allows space to be used more effectively. That is why our Hills developments have a rich variety of retail and cultural facilities, including wide, lush open spaces. Compact cities also boast a close proximity of work and residence. Since everything is within walking distance, it greatly cuts down on travel time for commuting and other purposes. This leads to increasing people’s free time.

Diverse Aspects of Human Life Linked Organically Together

Compact cities can increase the amount of enriching time and enriching spaces. An embodiment of this, our Hills developments offer of wide range of enrichment that people need in their lives. When diverse aspects of human life are organically intertwined and diverse people gather in one place, it increases opportunities for interaction, collaboration, and creation. Mori Building believes that this results in creative and enriching lifestyles.

Improving the Energy Efficiency of the Entire Complex and Driving Decarbonization

A compact city that uses the land effectively and efficiently is an environmentally friendly city. Because energy use trends differ by the type of facility (such as office, residence, or hotel), consolidating them levels out the energy used. In the latest Hills project, we have created energy networks that include the entire complex. Proper control of energy use enables energy to be supplied efficiently. In addition, initiatives such as implementing renewable energy drive the complex-wide decarbonization.
