Tokyo, October 16, 2024 -- Mori Building Co., Ltd., Japan's leading urban landscape developer, announced today that Toranomon Hills Station Tower, managed and operated by the company, has won the Good Design Award 2024 in the Neighborhood and Regional Development category. The award, sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, is Japan's only mechanism for comprehensive design evaluation and promotion.

The award recognizes all human-derived things and activities, both tangible and intangible--including ICT equipment, housing and construction, regional initiatives, household goods, and media content--in terms of the impact and benefits of their design on people's lives and society. The Toranomon Hills Station Tower was praised for evoking a sense of urban dynamism, stimulating and energizing people through its design, enlivening the local area with activities, and spreading culture both in Japan and abroad.

The 49-story tower (plus 4 basement floors) is a 266-meter multi-use skyscraper. Its integration with Toranomon Hills Station (Hibiya Line) has created a multi-layered transportation complex comprising elevated, ground and underground levels, including a lively and spacious atrium at the station entrance and a highly functional 20-meter-wide pedestrian walkway crossing over Sakurada-dori Avenue. One of its prominent facilities is the TOKYO NODE space for interactive events that bring new value and experiences to the world.

Toranomon Hills Station Tower is the first project in Tokyo designed by renowned architect Shohei Shigematsu of the acclaimed design firm OMA. Shigematsu's "connecting" design concept brings people together, including vibrant public spaces in front of the station and on the lower floors, and the TOKYO NODE interactive-communication space on the upper floors. The design facilitates movement between levels, closely connects the tower to its surroundings, and encourages interaction within and around the building as a compelling place for diverse activities and encounters.

The design even harmonizes with Tokyo's evolving skyline, with an upper profile that narrows on the north side and widens on the south side to blend into the skyline rather than dominate it.

Going forward, Mori Building will continue to contribute to Tokyo's global magnetism by steadily enhancing Toranomon Hills' role as a full-fledged international hub and global business center.
