Tokyo, September 14, 2022 -- Mori Building Co., Ltd., Japan's leading urban landscape developer, announced today that it has joined the RE100 international environmental initiative that encourages companies to procure 100% of the electricity they consume in business activities from renewable sources. Accordingly, Mori Building has committed to the goal of using renewable energy sources for all electricity consumed in its consolidated business activities by 2030. Through membership in RE100, the company hopes to accelerate its efforts to realize net-zero emissions at its many multiuse complexes and thereby contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.

RE100 (Renewable Electricity 100%) is managed by the Climate Group, an international environmental nongovernmental organization (NGO), and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an environmental NGO that promotes climate-change information disclosure. RE100 member companies commit to the goal of meeting 100% of their electricity consumption from renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydro, biomass and geothermal power, by 2050. Through international collaboration with companies that have significant influence in their respective countries, the goal is to encourage policymakers and investors to accelerate the energy transition.

Mori Building also is committed to the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from its consolidated business activities by fiscal 2050. Specific measures include the introduction and use of renewable energy electricity and facilities. The targets include a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by FY2030 (compared to FY2019), a 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by FY2030 (compared to FY2019), and finally net-zero by emissions FY2050.
