Tokyo, October 11, 2017 - Mori Building, a leading urban developer in Tokyo, announced the holding of INNOVATION TOKYO 2017, a weeklong series of events highlighting how robotics, virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence will be utilized by and coexist with smart cities of the future. An international conference, panel discussions, live performances, displays and demonstrations are highlighting cutting-edge innovation for smart cities between October 8 and October 14 at Roppongi Hills, Mori Building's mixed-use urban complex in Tokyo, where knowledge and innovation are helping to shape the evolution of cities.
Innovative City Forum 2017
A focal event of INNOATION TOKYO 2017 is the Innovative City Forum 2017 (ICF 2017), an international conference to discuss future cities and urban lifestyles, which will take place at Roppongi Academy Hills from October 12 to 14. Over the past four years, the annual ICF has brought together global leaders in art, design, science, technology and urban development to discuss the evolution of cities and urban lifestyles. This year, ICF 2017 will also examine the impact of economics and industry on smart cities, inviting 71 leaders including Hiroshige Seko, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and some 1,500 policy makers and key players.

Guests from diverse fields will discuss how enterprises should strategize and evolve in the fourth industrial revolution, where societies, lifestyles and values are being radically changed by the rapid evolution of technologies such as AI and IoT. - Art & Science Session: "Human Augmentation and the Designed World of Symbiosis" - October 12, 13:30-19:00
Panelists will discuss the evolution of science and technology, and the future of humankind from the perspectives of "augmentation" and "symbiosis," going beyond the realm of art and science. - GPCI 10th-year Anniversary: "Tokyo 2035 Urban Strategy Symposium" - October 12, 9:30-12:00
Celebrating the first decade of the Global Power City Index (GPCI), urban experts will consider Tokyo's next 20 years and its strategies for achieving future lifestyles and urban spaces that propel the city forward.
At the end of the forum, the discussions will be summarized with an eye on ICF 2018 by Keio University Professor Emeritus Heizo Takenaka, Mori Memorial Foundation Executive Director Hiroo Ichikawa, Mori Art Museum Director Fumio Nanjyo and MIT Media Lab Director Joichi Ito.

Another highlight is the RoboCup Demonstration featuring robotics-soccer competitions at Hills Cafe/Space on October 11 and 12. RoboCup official competitions, which have been held 19 times worldwide, are part of the ongoing integration and development of robotics and AI. The demonstration is presenting two-on-two matches between robots from Tokyo Polytechnic University, which won RoboCup 2017.
